Abstract:

The origin and characteristics of LD pumped continuous-wave solid-state laser intensity noise and balanced optical heterodyne detection are introduced. The influence of amplitude mismatching and relative propagation time delay which exist in the two arms of balanced photodetector(BPD) on signal detection and noise suppression is closely analyzed. Finally,a numerical result is presented and it shows that rigid propagation time delay must be controlled to suppress wide-band noise and for a BPD with f-3 dB=884 MHz a relative time delay less than 55.3 ps must be guaranteed to suppress wide-band noise for 30 dB at least.
