Abstract:

By using the second iteration Peano curve,a microstrip array antenna with high gain and end-fire characteristics is proposed. This array antenna consists of several Peano fractal curves,in which some microstrip phase shift sections are inserted to create a dipole array. The principle of this fractal array is introduced, and the effects of some important structural parameters on the antenna's performances are analyzed. Finally,a proposed fractal array antenna working at 5.8 GHz is designed and fabricated. Both simulated and measured results show that the antenna has excellent radiation performances,e.g.the end-fire gain is 19.0 dBi,the side-lobes are approximately 12 dB below the main lobe, the cross-polarization level is less than -30 dB,and especially the array's aperture efficiency is greater than 90%.
