New type low complexity psychoacoustic model

Abstract:

The psychoacoustic model is difficult to implement because of its high complexity. In order to solve the problem, a simple and new psychoacoustic model is designed. This model calculates the masking threshold by using the envelopes of the maximum and minimum dominative components obtained directly from MDCT coefficients, and using spectral flatness measure of MDCT coefficients. The complexity of the designed model is about 30% to 50% lower than that of conventional models with the same estimation results of the masking threshold when using other psychoacoustic models.
