Abstract: TCP segments are assembled into an OBS burst at the edge of an OBS network. In order to accurately analyze the relationship between assembly delay and TCP throughput, this paper simulates TCP over OBS is simulated focusing on the influence of assembly delay. It is found that there is a threshold of the assembly delay, and only when the delay is larger than the threshold, will the delay severely reduce the TCP throughput; it is also found that when a lost burst contains more than three continuous segments, the TCP sender will surely work overtime. A theoretical analysis of the above process is made, which proves that the simulation is accurate.
Key words: optical burst switching, assembly algorithm, TCP throughput
