Interactive arbitrary shape volume clipping based on region marking

Abstract: A novel interactive volume clipping method based on region marking is proposed. The method uses an efficient dataset region marking algorithm to archive the interactive result, regardless of the shape of the clipping object to define which parts of the volume have to be clipped. The proposed technique is integrated into the general graphics hardware accelerated volume rendering. The sophisticated graphics hardware is utilized to make it possible to interactively select and explore regions of the volume datasets under the standard PC.
