Abstract: The principle of the active laser surveillance is based on the cat's eye effects of optical systems. The retrodirective reflection of the optical systems against the incident laser is introduced and the laser ranging equation of the targets which have such effects is derived in detail in this paper. The limis to the surveillance range are discussed in two types of backgrounds: the large size targets with diffuse reflection characteristics on the ground and the small size targets with diffuse reflection characteristics in the air. The conclusion is proved by the experimental analysis.
Key words: the active laser surveillance, laser, reflectivity, optoelectronic countermeasures
