Abstract: We present a fast algorithm for reducing computation complexity of the encoding inter frame in H. 264. In the method, whether all coefficients of a block in transforming domain are zero is examined before integer transform and quantization. Using the above judgment of all-zero blocks, the computation of selecting the inter prediction mode is greatly reduced. Simulation results show that inter macroblock encoding of H. 264 is obviously speeded up by the proposed method. Furthermore, this algorithm is compatible with the H. 264 standard, and can be used in practice.
